Daimler Double Six

General Information

FRW “Lofty” England, the successor to Sir William Lyons, as Managing Director of Jaguar Cars, had been a Daimler apprentice from 1927-32 and had taken 2nd place in the very first RAC rally driving a 30/40hp Daimler Double-Six.
In 1972 on the arrival of the new V12 luxury saloon he decreed that it was to be baptized the Daimler Double-Six and so a legend was born.
The Series 111, the final derivation of the Daimler Double-Six arrived in 1979 and like it’s predecessors, benefited from the clean-cut, new body designed by famed Italian design house, pininfarina. The new design Featured a sleeker more elegant roofline with more glass and a slightly more refined look to the front and rear elevations, whilst still retaining the wonderfully distinctive Daimler Chrome-work. This was the Flagship car of the Jaguar/Daimler line.
It would be hard to imagine news footage of the late 1980s & early 1990s without a member of the cabinet or the house of Windsor ascending elegantly out of a Double Six, no other car of the period epitomized brisk luxury travel like a Daimler and in such truly understated British fashion. This was the car that meant business and it was loved and exported all over the world.
