General Information

At the time of the conception of the 2 Door range, Daimler engineers realized that the smooth exhilarating performance of the superlative 4.2 engine would be ideally suited to a car of this character, thus the 2-door version of the Sovereign came into being.

This latest model loses nothing to its predecessors, nor indeed with the Double Six, with which it shares its distinctive styling, the same low sleek elegance, and the same simplicity of profile, enhanced by the singlewide doors. The hand painted coach-line and the black leather grained vinyl roof are immediately apparent, and a little closer familiarity would reveal that the Sovereign 4.2 2 door model is in every way a Daimler. The effortless power, the beautifully matched transmission and the excellent all round road performance are unmistakable credentials, so too are the spaciousness and luxury of the interior, which is as impressive for the driver as it is for the passengers. The luxury leather seats, the exquisite hand-made walnut veneers and deep pile carpets combine to provide the environment expected of a Daimler. The rear passengers enjoy a combination of spacious luxury and comfort from the individual armchair style Connolly hide seats, which is further complimented by the all-essential head to foot room.

Becoming quite rare these days, in production from 1975 to 1978, only 1598 RHD were ever made of which 76 still remain licensed in the UK.

History Report

This Particular Daimler is presented in deep Regency red coachwork with full Biscuit leather upholstery. It was manufactured on the 5th of January 1976. It has a particularly interesting pedigree, having previously been owned by Sir Anthony Jolliffe, who was the sheriff of London in 1980 and the Lord Mayor of London in 1982. It was treated to a full restoration in 1988 whereby the car was completely stripped to bare metal and the shell shot blasted, all faulty panels were replaced with new and the car repainted in its original colour.
The engine was completely dismantled and re-engineered, the crank reground, new pistons were fitted the gearbox stripped and rebuilt. Also all new suspension, steering, brakes, radiator, exhaust and road wheels were fitted together with both front and rear screens and seals.
The interior was treated to a new headlining and all the seats were re-trimmed in the factory original biscuit leather.
It is as immaculate today as it was when it reappeared after its 3-year restoration program. It drives beautifully with impeccable road manners. We have put it through our workshop, given it a full service and corrected a few little niggles so now it is extremely good to go.
