1960 Austin-Healey Sprite Mk1 “Frogeye”
Manufactured on 19th August 1960 with Chassis No 45228, NSV288 was first registered on in May 1984.
Out of a total of 48,987 Frog Eye Sprites produced only 12,737 were right hand drive. NSV288, a home market car, has stayed in the UK all of its life and still carries its original registration number.
The car had been languishing in a garage in Hampshire for the past 7 years and has been since acquired by its current vendor, Memory Lane Classics, who are building an excellent reputation as restorers of Frog Eye Sprites. The car arrived newly painted in leaf green but upon examination, the quality of the repairs were such that it was decided that the car be put through their complete restoration program.
Briefly, the body shell was stripped back to bare metal, panels replaced as needed with new UK supplied panels, seam welded to form invisible repairs. The entire shell was powder coated to ensure a rust-free future. As the Directors of Memory Lane had no affection for leaf green and had just completed an Iris Blue restoration, the decision was made to repaint the car in Primrose Yellow. The whole of the car has been repainted including the underside and inner panels.
The mechanical works have been extensive with a total of 1882 parts replaced.
The complete drive chain, engine, gearbox, prop shaft, differential, back axle have been re-engineered to better than original condition.
All brake parts have been renewed.
The electrical system has been upgraded to negative earth, including an alternator in the guise of a dynamo.
