Detailed Specs

The car was purchased as a stalled restoration project from a Frog Eye Sprite enthusiast in Cornwall, by its current vendor, Memory Lane Classics, who are building an excellent reputation as restorers of Frog Eye Sprites, and this car has been through their complete restoration program. Briefly, the body shell was stripped back to bare metal, panels replaced as needed with new UK supplied panels, seam welded to form invisible repairs. The entire shell powder coated to ensure a rust-free future, and then the whole of the car, including the underside and inner panels has been re-painted in its original colour of Iris Blue.

The mechanical works have been extensive with a total of 1882 parts replaced.

The complete drive chain, engine, gearbox, prop shaft, differential, back axle have been re-engineered to better than original condition.

All brake parts have been renewed.

The electrical system has been upgraded to negative earth, including an alternator in the guise of a dynamo.

Electronic ignition and all new electric components have been fitted.

The fuel system has been updated including a new fuel tank, fuel lines, electric petrol pump and inline filter.  The carburetors have been professionally rebuilt.

The front suspension and steering mechanism has been replaced.

The original chrome has been re-plated to better than original specification.

The interior comprises new black leather seats, new black carpets including the boot, new trim, new wooden steering wheel and gear knob.

The dashboard has been recovered and all the gauges restored and re-calibrated.

The hood frame has been stripped and powder-coated and a new black hood and tonneau cover complete the restoration.

The list of restoration work is far too long to mention here but it is fully documented within the history file.

Maintenance & Restoration

We decided that British classic cars were where our passions lay. The timeline was set at 40 years and older and a number of potential motor Cars were discussed, the MK1 (Frogeye) Sprite was chosen as our starting point. These cars were only built between 1958 and 1960, pioneering a Monocoque design and with very few specification changes.

We purchase a number of Frogeyes, in a variety of conditions from completely broken down to just extremely tatty.
